Fairly obviously this is a study for the right hand.. The vigorous quality is undeniable. It's not one with a high emotional content and like No.4 perhaps more a typical concert piece than most of the others.

It bears a resemblance to one of the 'Vingt Exercises et Preludes' of Maria Szymanowska in the same key, composed around 1820.

Hans von Bulow called it a "bravura study par exellence"
